to expand on this, take a look at the scripts which are part of the
gerbv testsuite.  Those use gerbv to produce PNG's of the files and then
ImageMagick to produce a visual diff.  One of them makes an animation so
you get blinking where there are differences.  This can help make your
eye pick up on smaller changes.
