I can't easily test here either, but I recall similar fixes in other
places.

There is always g_ascii_strtod () for input. This always works as in the
"C" locale, without the non-thread safe requirement of changing the
underlying locale.

To go the other way, use g_ascii_dtostr() or g_ascii_formatd ()
