On 12/21/03 the PPMC and the greater community voted to keep the name Geronimo for this project with 48 votes for and 24 votes against. Total binding votes were 15 to 1. Total non-binding votes were 33 to 23.

During the vote, the primary concern was over the possibility of a complaint arising from the use of the name. The PPMC takes this concern very seriously and weighing this risk was certainly a factor in the vote.

There has been no complaint to date from the use of the name, which has achieved traction and awareness in the larger community. If a genuine complaint should arise, full cooperation will be given to resolve the issue expeditiously.

Continued care will be taken by the project to treat the name with respect and to avoid any stereotypic or caricatural usage in the future.

This is a serious matter and has consumed a substantial amount of time and bandwidth. With this vote complete and the community's voice on record, it is time for us to put it behind us and move on. Let us focus our skill and energy on developing the best application server out there, Apache Geronimo.
