You could always get a media streamer which can access network drives, and stream the contents to your PC. They're available at relatively low cost. I have a Western Digital one which works beautifully.
Yes, that would be one way of doing it. However, I'm really impressed with watching on the TV or the HD box. My PC does not have hardware MPEG decoding... so the TV or HD box doing the decoding is a huge improvement. Apart from anything, no fan! :-)
Sorry, Steve, that was a typo. I meant "streams to your TV". I have a Western Digital media streamer. Box about the size of a pack of playing cards with a network connection on one end, a couple of USB ports, and an HDMI output. Just plug it in to the network and the TV, and you're away. Works superbly well.
