It has been on the radar for a while. At present, get_iplayer would
need a few minor changes to work with avconv. Not sure when
Debian/Ubuntu will force this on us. It would probably be a good
idea
to make get_iplayer compatible with avconv by the time of next Ubuntu
release, but no idea if it will actually be necessary.
Well from our (Debian's) point of view, we're (get_iplayer) probably
safe for another two years; avconv is not in the archive and almost
certainly will not make it in before we freeze on Saturday. The current
version, and therefore most likely to be in the release, of ffmpeg is
0.8.3.
As far as Ubuntu is concerned: the situation is currently the same, but
as they freeze every six months it could change within that time. That
said, a year is probably a safe assumption still. (I don't watch Ubuntu
closely, so it would be helpful if someone could keep an eye on this.)
