I agree. It irritates me as well. If the field name is to suggest that it is when the programme was first broadcast, then that is what it should be. So if they ever put onto iPlayer something that was first, historically, broadcast during the brief period before the WW2 during which there were TV broadcasts (they were stopped to free up resources for the war effort), then the "<firstbcast>" field should contain that date.
