Hi Nick!

What you report is consistent with the file metadata from the beeb:

New Tricks - Series 11: 8. The English Defence ->
pid=b04l6zbp -> vpid=b04l6zbh ->

<media bitrate="2800" encoding="h264" expires="2014-11-05T22:40:00Z" height="720" kind="video" media_file_size="1577950038" service="pc_streaming_hd" type="video/mp4" width="1280">

file_size="1577950038" ~ 1.47 GiB

New Tricks - Series 11: 7. In Vino Veritas ->
pid=b04kmt0v -> vpid=b04kmt0n ->

<media bitrate="2800" encoding="h264" expires="2014-10-27T20:59:00Z" height="720" kind="video" media_file_size="1042920810" service="pc_streaming_hd" type="video/mp4" width="1280">

file_size="1042920810" ~ 0.97 GiB

For reasons only they know, the most recent episode
was encoded with an elevated video bitrate, hence
the substantially bigger file size.
The audio bitrate is usually (AAC-LC@) 96kbpsABR
for HD files, so file size is in essence controlled
by video bitrate...

Cheers
