I only use the GiP command line via SSH, not the web PVR etc. I get the impression that all I need to update is the get_iplayer perl script rather than any of the supporting programs/scripts. AFAIK the perl is portable, I might wander off and grab the perl from github and manually put it in the right place. Using apt-get etc is just lazy really.
