Switch to Ubuntu? That might sound silly but actually it is not difficult to set the PC up to dual boot Win or Ubuntu (or you can run Ubuntu in a virtual machine under windows). After a short learning curve you will realise how fantastic it is to be back in charge of your machine again. There are very few apps that do not have an equivalent in Ubuntu. I set mine up to dual boot but very soon found I virtually stopped using Win.
