are valid MP4 (audio-only) files, but with a new-ish format/type of "iso6-dash"; VLC 2.1.x, 2.2.x, 3.0.0-nightly can play them fine, so can a few other software players on Windows (MPC-BE, DAUM PotPlayer), but the majority of software/ hardware media players will burf on them...

m4a that does, or .ts. Not .mp3.

For completeness, one should also add .flv (audio-only) files, produced with
--radiomode=flash --raw

flash(tv|radio) modes were the default on GiP 2.94, so --raw yielded FLV files back then...
