Over a V42bis connection would be a bit silly and take a while but it's not that long ago that I'd start a download at bedtime and it might have completed by the next evening over such a connection. And *that* is the problem. To shift gigabytes of data in a sensible amount of time you need a fast connection, that is a few 10's of Mbps. That sort of speed just isn't available in many places, this place included with < 5 MBps ADSL+. The new 50fps iPlayer downloads at not much quicker than realtime... > It was the humour in the error message that is refreshing.
