This list post refers to the following support forum thread:
https://squarepenguin.co.uk/forums/thread-1270-post-5669.html#pid5669
so it is mainly meant for @SquarePenguin, who wrote in #2:
Yes, the BBC haven't made the non audio described version available,
so the only one available is an audio described version
The true reason OP wasn't able to fetch the non-AD version
of Eastenders, Ep of 27/03/17, has been analysed by my humble self
in last month's post at:
http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/get_iplayer/2017-March/010433.html
> TL;DR: The manifestation of your issue is caused by an
unfortunate coincidence of two things:
1. Incomplete metadata on the beeb's side for that
particular episode (YES, the BBC is to blame in part)
2. An otherwise very sane commit in the main GiP
perl script, that was pushed on Jan 6, 2016.
The reason has only historical significance now,
with the XML feeds being (ex)terminated...
Incidentally, employing the --ybbcy switch would have
made the download possible for the OP (but sadly
that episode has now expired...)
Other that the above, I totally agree with the rest
of #2; the reason OP sometimes only finds the SL/AD
versions of programmes is that he wasn't prompt
enough to fetch the "original" versions before they expired;
SL/AD versions, and this is my own observation, are broadcast
slightly after the "original" aired, hence they expire later;
no need to accuse the Beeb and all those who depend on
these "special" versions...
Best regards,
Vangelis.
