The particular episode you mention (PID: m0000t3y) is available in all
of those three versions. When you play it on the BBC Sounds website,
which will always choose an original broadcast version when available,
the original version is indeed the one that plays.
The episode which Roger is attempting to grab (PID: m00014jt) is only
currently available as a podcast. This is also reflected on the BBC
Sounds website, which as I said above, will always choose an original
broadcast version wherever possible. In this case it plays the podcast
version. So this is not a get_iplayer issue and you would have to ask
the BBC why they haven't made an original broadcast version of this (and
other episodes) available yet and whether or not they plan to.
Sorry I was confused by the reference to The Fable of the Bees.
Essentially what is being said is that there have been two episodes,
Marie Antoinette and Horace, where the only version has been podcast. I
suspect it is a mistake.
For Free Radicals we have
pid: m0000xqd
player: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0000xqd
verpids: original: m0000xqc
verpids: podcast: p06qh39x
verpids: shortened: m0000xrz
For Marie Antoinette we have
pid: m000117y
player: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000117y
verpids: podcast: p06r5160
For Horace we have
pid: m00014jt
player: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00014jt
verpids: podcast: p06rtx9p
If there had been an intentional change to podcast only I would have
expected the programme PIDs to begin p06r.... or p06q.... instead of
which they continue to begin m000.... We'll have to see what happens
with the next episode and whether an original or editorial version is
added for these two programmes, and whether similar changes are made to
other programmes.
Best wishes
Richard
