Dear Mirko,

The algorithm of Bank refinement implemented in getfemç_mesh.cc is  
normally designed to keep
the region number when refining elements (see the function  
mesh::handle_region_refinement).
So, there is probably a bug somewhere !
I you have a small example (matlab or c++) exhibiting the error, I  
could have a look to
this function to see what is wrong.
