Dear Ryan, There was indeed a bug but not in the generic assembly. It was in the interface in the function mfu=gfMeshFem(m); which was not initialisating correctly the mesh_fem object. Instead, if you test with mfu=gfMeshFem(m,1); it should work. I committed a fix.
