I don't think that is paranoid. A more typical situation is when a
customer places regular orders, for example, once per week. That
customer is then able, from provided information, to determine weekly
order volumes.

An often used solution is to have incremental order numbers prefixed
by the customer's username or initials. The increment is then specific
to the customer.
