What I have found, and just by accident, is that after the apps have been 
built,  Option dragging them to a new or different folder does that too - the 
same as making duplicates as outlined below, and this has been working for 
quite a while now, maybe three months.

Just a few days ago someone mentioned a trick that has worked for me  
in getting a Mach-O built apps icon to appear. Build the app and then  
go to the finder and right-click or Control-Click on the new app and  
choose Duplicate from the popup menu. The duplicate will have the  
proper icon so delete the original and rename the duplicate back to  
what it should be. Been working for me since this trick was published  
a few days ago.
