I want to trigger a new window event by
clicking certain blocks of text in a large
portion of text. Can this be done in an editfield?

Certainly, using CharPostAtXY as has been described. For example, I
have used a read-only EditField that I populate automatically with
some text in red. The red means you can click on it and get a popup
menu of options. In that case, after finding the clicked character
using CharPosAtXY, I used a StyleRun to determine the extent of the
clickable text areas. That's just one approach; you can also examine
characters until you see whitespace, or whatever approach makes sense
in your application.
That could work, I have control over the styles used, and could easily
do something like that. Probably underline, since all (to be) clickable items are titles, and I don't want to add the underline option to editable text.
Thanks
