It is my feeling that another option should be offered, to allow me to back out without being forced to to accept the conversion. Am I wrong in having this expectation?
Well, as long as you don't save it I don't see a real problem. Just quit that version and launch the version you want. It is assuming that you launched the version of RB that you wanted and it is going to make the project appropriate for that version. I wouldn't think that you have any code in your projects that shouldn't be able to run with the latest version of RB. I have had no problems with my projects other than this one deal with needing to update the MBS plugins when R4 came out.
Even if RB gave you that option not to convert you would immediately have to quit that version of RB any hoo how because it could possibly have code in it that wouldn't run in this older version. Since the change has only been made in memory and not on the hard drive if you don't save the project after the conversion there is no real problem.
I got tired of forgetting to drag the project on top of the proper version of RB that I wanted to have it work in and so I deleted all but version 4 of REALbasic. The other reason is that once you start using plugins, any time you launch a different version of RB from the previous one, it does a "precompile" of the plugins again for that version the first time you try to run a project. It only keeps one version of the precompiled plugins rather than a version for each version of RB that you are using. It wouldn't be so bad except that the MBS plugins are huge and take several minutes to precompile. Once they have been precompiled they are fine until you switch versions of RB again. Due to this I only keep one version of RB on the hard drive these days. Used to go with three or four versions but not now. I do have the downloads and/or CDs for all of the older versions should a need to go back arise.
