It may be recoverable if you haven't saved anything else since then. Most OSes simply write a new file and then free the blocks to be written over later.

The problem you might encounter is, if you don't already have a file recovery program already installed, you might wipe out the file by installing it. Norton's Utilities and others allow booting and running from the install CD or DVD and then restoring your file. Even running your email program could have already destroyed the file however.
