I compiled gforth-0.6.1 on a Redhat 9 system with no apparent problems.
233 MHz K6-2, 128 Mbyte RAM, gcc v3.2.2, KDE terminal window
'configure' altered to use gcc flags, -march=pentium or -march=k6-2, in Makefile XCFLAGS.
