In Linux you can set up the serial port using stty from the command line or from a script. Then in your gforth program you can use the serial device as if it were a file. We use this in amrFORTH, an open source tethered target forth for 8051 and other microcontrollers. If you get go to www.amresearch.com and download the latest V6 (version 6) you can see exactly how we do it in the file serial_ports.fs. I wish I knew how to do the same in Windows.
