I use CVS version already.

It's hard to communicate to others, sometimes you have to remember 
date of CVS checkout to provide reproducible results.  Why not make 
snapshot distribution?  E. g. set tag of 0.6.3, or 0.6.9 version or 
something of this kind.  Maybe you could benefit from having
intermediate releases between 0.6.2 (2003) and 0.6.now (2006).
However unstable they would be.
