Their will be a native fbdev driver for 3D Rage Pro as well as Rage 128.
As for the 3D stuff I'm using the ATI card and Matrox g200 as a test bed
for my /dev/gfx driver. Once completed I will be porting this to SGI 
workstations. Unlike DRI method it has internal locking and
actually does real direct rendering. Well it has to because it will
be ported to SGI machines. Their will be a GGI target written for this.

For native fbdev drivers its required for the card that can do MMIO to be
in MMIO mode. So yes all cards can exist toegther. See Marcus reply for
details. Note their is a Voodoo framebuffer device for 2.3.x kernels.
