Thank you for the hint. Does 'severe limitations' mean still good enough
to do development on??

The only information I do have on the Neomagic is that..

i) it runs on Toshiba and a lot of other notebooks.
ii) There were special X-related drivers written for it on linux, e.g.
      check www.precisioninsight.com. The sources of some of the drivers 
        allegedly made it to be released at XFree86. But I could not
        get precise information on it. See also www.redhat.com, i.e.
        search mailing lists at that site.
