Yes. So far this is correct. You don not have a woking fbcon driver yet, on
which LibGGI can run.

For a quick test, you can try to run some of the demos under X.

This is not all you need to do. I just added your question to the FAQ I
added to the current development version. It goes like this:

Q: I am trying to run on the vesafb driver, but it doesn't work.

A: There are two common problems with the vesafb driver:
   1. It has to be activated _explictly_ at boot. Please read
      /usr/doc/linux/Documentation/fb/vesafb.txt on how to do this.
      Verify, that you have a _block_ cursor. If you have an underline
      cursor, vesafb is not active.
   2. It cannot switch modes. This is a VESA limitation, not a driver
      limitation. Programs that cannot adapt to the preset mode have no
      chance of running.

I suppose you have problem #1.

Forget about the suggestion to use the KGI driver for now - the S3 drivers 
are probably outdated anyway.
