I am running an Alpha Decstation 255 with a PCI Matrox mga1064;  I don't 
have the same problem you have, but the fbdev target has problems with
consistancy checks and also visible problems with getbox/copybox.
When I get to looking into it further, I'll check to see if they might
be related issues.
