linux_kbd implementation

Hi folks,

In the context of the FreeBSD fullscreen port (first without KGI),
I'm currently having a look to linux_kbd driver of libgii.

I have 2 questions about it:

Why GII needs both label and sym informations?
What's exactly the differences between them?

Really strange that the input driver has to handle whereas
the Numlock is on or off to return the good sym...
