It did work for me, but never flawlessly. There is a strange chicken/egg
problem with manual resizing, as both manual resizes as well as the
implicit resize caused by the SetMode calls that actually do the resize
will cause X-Resize events.
I don't have the time to fix this right now, but you would be very welcome
to look into the code and think about a reasonable solution. There probably
is a pretty simple solution that I just didn't see due to my limited
knowledge of X.
