Don't want to produce noise, but:

I tried some static linking of ggi and gii libs using the demos.

Short: Segfaulting all the way. Logs available on request.

I possibly did not do the right thing. Configure with --enable-static 
and use the resulting .a's.

I will (have to) play on with this. As i thought you might be 
interested, did i crosspost a mail to debian-devel to this list also.
