Uh, yes ;) Really haven't found a way yet to debug the opening phase of 
an fbdev driver. After switching screens, and i suppose not yet having 
loaded vtswtch, it was the first time i was glad to have an acpi 
machine, allowing to gracefully power down by pushing the button.

When doing as suggested, however (compiling modded directfb) lots of 
errors are now generated by directfb about unexpected pixelformats. As 
i could only test with broken nvidia driver, i don't know yet, whether 
this is the gfxdriver or really the interface.

Directfb drivers really speed things up, but are a PITA. Thanks, that 
you've taken up on it, i couldn't have done in that time. Now Debian 
build daemons haven't yet made libgii on all archs, giving a delay for 
ggi anyway, so i can look after that pixformat issue ...
