The Type character is bad. I have not think about the conversation to byte type.
I would suggest to reference: book "The Designer's guide to VHDL" third edition from Peter J. Ashenden. in Chapter 16 "A file can only contain one type of object, but that type can be allmost any VHDL type, including scalar types, records and one-dimensional arrays. the only types that cannot be stored in files are mulidimensional arrays, access types, protected types and other files."
