I got the second make to complete by first adding the logical link (ln -s ghdl_mcode ghdl) to build the vhdl libraries. I used make target=i686-darwin and make_target=i686-darwin install.mcode for the two make commands. I did have a patched translate/ghdldrv/Makefile (target=i686-darwin) but no other patches reflected in ghdl.diff using svn revision 143 (current). I've got a chip design I'll try simulating this evening. It does seem to work.
