/bin/sh in conjunction with sed and awk isn't a bad tool-set. I am
primarily interested in a robust test-suite that will produce concise
reports in a nice format. The failure of a test shouldn't cause the
entire testing process to fail.

Maybe [GNU Parallel](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_parallel) could be
incorporated in a clever way (if there are no objections).
