With enough examples it should be possible to isolate the key
technical points and write VHPI and VPI "how-to" pages for the GHDL
wiki.
I have tried to use VPI but always failed, so I stick to VHPI.
My approach today is to expose the debugging/inspection design to the
whole system, mainly because I want to use the same debug tools during
the other stages of implementation, such as when the design is in a
FPGA.
Feel free to reuse examples from http://ygdes.com/GHDL/ and ask me
questions
if something is not clear. The files are free software extracts from
long
articles so they may not contain or document all the subtleties.
