John Travolta is still in deep mourning for his only son, Jett, 16, who died in January during a New Year holiday vacation in the Bahamas. Travolta is suffering such grief that he has become a virtual recluse and is barely able to function, reports London's Mail on Sunday newspaper. He once rode a buggy around his vast property with Jett by his side; now a neighbor says he rides alone and only after dark. Travolta has also canceled all work commitments since his son's death. There are even claims that the longtime follower of the Church of Scientology wants to leave the church and bitterly regrets following its strict teachings for treating Jett's condition, which is thought to have been autism. The Church of Scientology considers autism to be psychosomatic and "treats" it with vitamins and a detox program. Ethics officers with the church are also questioning the Travolta family to determine if their "negative influences" caused Jett's death. Travolta is concerned about leaving the church because of fears it will retaliate by revealing embarrassing details about his private life. "Scientology keeps files on its celebrity members containing embarrassing personal information about them," Rick Ross, an author who has watched the church for 30 years, told the Mail on Sunday. "And Scientology has proven in the past that it has a penchant for releasing that information to embarrass people who have left and who have said things it doesn't like." -- John Travolta to leave Scientology? Staff reporterJuly 28, 2009 - 12:51PM According to the gossip blog Gatecrasher, John Travolta, is rumoured to be thinking of leaving Scientology after his faith was shaken by the death of his son Jett. It's believed that Scientology's failure to help Jett may have led Travolta to question his faith. Travolta's son was thought to have suffered from autism. Scientology is opposed to psychiatry and counsels the use of vitamins to combat the disability. The diet-based treatment's lack of success is said to underlie Travolta's disillusionment with his long-held faith. The Herald-Sun reports that Travolta wishes to leave the church but fears the possibility of personal revelations too much to officially break with it. Travolta has been a member of the controversial church for 34 years. Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly quotes John Travolta's spokesperson today as saying the actor is a Scientologist "now and forever". spanx' blog: http://spankyenriquez.blogspot.com/ --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gimik" group.
