Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be on a healthier track with its new
grilled selections, but it turns out that it's hard to teach a 79-year-old
fast-food chain new tricks. We regret to introduce you to the most recent
addition to KFC's menu: the Double Down, a sandwich that replaces a bun with
two strips of deep-fried chicken. Independent testing estimates that this
grab-and-go catastrophe packs 1,200 calories and 50 grams of fat. So far,
the Double Down is limited to test markets in Rhode Island and Nebraska, but
don't be surprised if the gastronomic nightmare soon pops up on a KFC menu
near you.
