At least we can give you a preview while you wait. The writers, creators and producers of the show – Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan – spoke to fans at the Writer’s Guild of America theater in Beverly Hills. The event was hosted by the Paley Center for Media. Here’s the straight dirt from Murphy and Co. themselves. The music in season two: Ryan: “What we realized is people love the numbers but they love the characters just as much so in the second season, for example, we’re going back to five numbers and more character moments. That’s just something you learn as you go. ” Nationals are coming, but that’s not the end: Ryan: “This year you’ll see sectionals, regionals and nationals which is really the true pattern. Just because we’re going to do nationals doesn’t mean that they have to be there, that they have to go. We also said this television show is like the *Rocky *movies so we will get to Russia eventually. I think it would be great if they made it. I think it would be great if they lose and then go see New York. That’s an episode. I want to see what does a national champ look like in that show choir world? So we’re going to do that.” Rachel and Finn stay together this year: Ryan: “One thing that I’m really interested in is okay, well, Rachel and Finn kind of broke up twice. Let’s keep them together, these two very different people, and let’s really see how an entire season, if there’s no breakup scenes, what does that couple look like at the end of that season. So we’re interested in that. I think that the characters are set now that you can sort of do that with the relationships.” But they don’t go too far: Ryan: “I always think the key to it is once they sleep together, the air is out of the balloon. I think the metaphor to relationships is very similar. I think we are a family show and I don’t want the lead actress of the show to jump into bed with the quarterback. Hopefully that will take years to accomplish and I think it will.” Secrets are going to come out: Ryan: “Rachel did not sleep with Jesse. I think she lied an said that she did but she didn’t go through with it. [Finn] did and what was interesting was to have a guy say, ‘I wish that I had waited’ as opposed to ‘Yeah!’ I thought that was a vulnerable choice and I think that discussion certainly will come up. She does not know that but that’s a whole episode right there. When she finds out, what will she do? He hasn’t lied but he hasn’t told her the truth. But that’s dudes, isn’t it?” Terry’s desperate ploys to get Will back: Ryan: “I think what she needs to do is she needs to date somebody who will make Will be green with jealousy. We’re trying to figure out who is that person? It’s not the principal for one. We have a very narrow list of candidates.” Brad: “This is a woman that was so in love with her husband and had a sense that she was losing him and said, ‘I’ll do anything to keep this man, anything’ including something totally insane. I think in the second season, she’ll be doing the same thing. She loves Will. She wants Will. He’s the love of her life. Crazy as she is, he’s the love of her life so she will do anything to get him.” Sue Sylvester’s secret love life revealed in season two: Ryan: “Our process is very unusual. I don’t even know how to describe it. We sit in a room, like today, the conversations are crazy. At one point Ian said, ‘I think Sue dated David Koresh.’ Then you just go from there. Come on.” Ian: “She would describe it as wet extremely hot American summer.” More Tina, Mike and Matt: Ryan: “Yeah, we’re just writing the opening scripts right now but the thing we all felt was when we just had a little mini-tour in several cities, when we did Radio City Music Hall and Heather [Morris] and Naya [Rivera] came out, the roof lifted off. You sit in the back and you just want to start writing. The same thing happened with the character of Mike Chang. What I love about the show is people see themselves in a very specific character. There are so many access points for so many different types of people, we’re starting to explore that more. I think every other minute I get a call, ‘Is it true X is guest starring?’ 99% of the time it’s not true, specifically for the second season because we have such gifts in these people we want to write for these people that people have started to become invested in.” The scoop on Javier Bardem’s guest spot: Ryan: That’s true. I just directed this movie with Javier and Julia Roberts. We were at this international junket and I went up to him and said, ‘I want to congratulate you on your best actor award at Cannes.’ He goes, ‘I do not want to talk about Cannes. I want to talk about *Glee.*’ He had downloaded every episode. He said he watched them in a crack binge. He knew everything about everybody and he said, ‘I want to come on. Will you write me something?’ So how do you say no to Javier Bardem? You can’t ignore him so that one is true.” Last year’s guest stars will return: Ryan: “Jonathan [Groff]’s doing a play in London until January but I would love for him, all of them. Kristin [Chenoweth]’s definitely coming back. We’re getting ready to write that. There’s always opportunities. I would love for Neil [Patrick Harris] to come back. He’s on a competing network. Those are all amazing people. We wrote those parts for those people.” Emmy nominations: Ryan: “For me I felt what I always feel with this show about everything. How did that happen? I’m very humbled by it. I feel very stunned that people got it in a big way. That’s how I always feel, very grateful because I do think it’s a very unusual show. It’s a very unusual tone. I think what it’s about is unusual. There’s never been a musical on television that had worked so the fact that it is embraced as much as it has been is just amazing to me. I feel like it’s a true gift in my life, everything that’s happened. These two guys do not believe in cell phones so one of the best parts for me was I got to call them to say, ‘You have your first Emmy nomination’ which was for writing the pilot. I woke them up.
