Possibly of zero relevance but the installation of 2.2Pre installed a

/test/gimp-2.2/etc/gimp/2.0/gimprc

I have a number of other installations and the gimprc file seemed to be
installed in a sub directory that reflected the version, eg,

/opt/etc/gimp/2.1/gimprc
