Gtk+ is -- inside a major release -- binary compatible (upwards) -->
programs compiled with gtk+-1.2.x will work with gtk+1.2.(x+n), n >= 0.
It may not necessarily work the other way round as it's perfectly legal to
enhance the ABI (e.g. by adding new functions) in a greater minor version.
