You are right. I do look for an installation of at least 2.7.3 before
allowing the installation of the Useful Plugins. Something to remember
for the future.

One work around for now is to grab the 7z zipped version and do a
manual install. I supply that version since some folks on Flickr don't
want to use the installer. :)
