You don't need a password to unsubscribe, simply enter your email address at https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list in the very bottom box, click "Unsubscribe or edit options", then click the "Unsubscribe" button on the next page. You will however have to click the confirmation link (check your spam folder).
