What error message *exactly* do you get, and from what program, and
when?

I had no difficulty exporting from your xcf example to a jpeg image.

Maybe posting the original JPG file from darktable would help people to
guess the problem.

Why are you saving JPEG files and not PNG files from darktable? JPEG is
lossy.
