The instructions at the above link do NOT help -- one cannot find
"Edit->Preferences->etc..." in a foreign script one cannot read.
I ran this from the command line (Terminal) and it worked:
LANG="en" ; export LANG ; /Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/MacOS/Gimp
