Thanks for the suggestions, Liam and Guy. I was at least able to access the PDS (NASA’s Planetary Data System) .img image in GIMP 2.8.20 (!) by changing the image file type to .data. Unfortunately, there’s no bit depth parameter available. How difficult would it be to provide that in the “Load Image From Raw Data” GUI? P’shop provides the following in their "Photoshop Raw Options" dialog: If there was even just an option to choose 8-bit or 16-bit image depth, that’d be a big help. Many thanks.
