Rick,

Have you compiled from source before on a Mac? If not, it's likely that you
don't have the Xcode command line tools installed.

Please do the following in the terminal app:
xcode-select   --install

If that doesn't work, you will have to sign the Apple Developer's agreement
before proceeding.
