It sounds like the configure script couldn't find any of the libraries to support other image types. Do you have libjpeg, libpng, etc., installed?
I found the problem, thanks for the quick reply. I didn't have the plug-ins directory set correctly.
What platform are you building on?
Gentoo Linux.
