Ah. I wasn't aware that the toolkit we use for the user interface is
considered the underlying library. I'd use that term for an image
manipulation library such as GEGL.
 

Ah. Not all Gimp users (as this list is called) are as knowledgeable of 
terminology as the Gimp creators.
