You seem to have filled the new areas over the top of the old image -- The antialiasing is perfectly correct, it's just that when you are antialiasing from red to red or black to black, the result is invisible.
This is how it looks when I do it, properly:

I did this by:
* Create a new (white) layer
* Select the red areas
* Selection to path
* Path to selection
* Fill the selection on the new layer with red
* Select the black areas
* Selection to path
* Path to selection
* Fill the selection on the new layer with black.
