Probably nothing. What is the output of 'ls -l /usr/local/bin|grep gimp'

Do you have another gimp installation?

When you built Gimp-2.3, did you set all the environment variables so that it 
wouldn't get confused with your other gimp as explaind in the README or INSTALL
